Vandana Shiva - Scientist and theorist of social ecology
Quantum physicist and economist, Shiva directs the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Natural Resource Policy in Dehradun, India.
She is considered to be the most noted theorist of the new science: social ecology.
In 1982, in her home city, she founded the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Policy of Natural Resources, an independent research institute in strict collaboration with local communities and social movements that deals with the most significant problems concerning social ecology today.
In 1991, she founded Navdanya, a movement to protect the diversity and integrity of living resources, specifically native seeds at risk of extinction.
In 2002, in collaboration with Navdanya, Slow Food launched India’s first two presidia: Dehradun Basmati Rice and Orissa Mustard Oil Pickles.
