Non-native but traditional African products

Some products may have originated elsewhere in the world, in Asia, Latin America or Europe, but were introduced to Africa hundreds of years ago and have now adapted to the local climate and terrain. These include plants like cacao, manioc, banana and ginger and animal species like goats, sheep and cattle, which have become an integral part of the local ecosystems. As the species have adapted to the new environment, specific breeds, populations and ecotypes have developed, closely linked to the culture of the indigenous peoples.
