Slow Food Alliance Weekend

08/11/13
The first edition of the Slow Food Alliance Days will be held on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November in Casablanca, at Maroc Taswiq's fair-trade shop. Chefs and small-scale food producers will meet the wider public during a unique event which aims to explore and share local flavors. The event's theme is: "Useful local consumption for sustainable local development."

In collaboration with the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity and Maroc Taswiq, a public organization working to promote fair trade, Slow Food Morocco has launched an Alliance between local chefs and Slow Food Presidia, to bring consumers closer to producers and guide them towards a more conscious approach. The aim of the network is to encourage restaurants to become interpreters of the gastronomic wealth surrounding them, inviting them to use local products that reflect the philosophy of "good, clean and fair." The initiative supports small-scale local food producers who are committed to preserving Moroccan food biodiversity.

The two days will be filled with various events exploring local flavors and the cultures of nearby food communities, with meetings with producers; cooking demonstrations with Moroccan chefs like Choumicha, Meryem Cherkaoui and Rahal as well as chefs from other countries; tastings; round-table discussions and much more.

Among the many guests, two Alliance chefs from Italy and the Netherlands will be sharing their experiences at the event: Vittorio Fusari (Dispensa Pane e Vini in Lombardy) and Geert Burema (Merkelbach in Amsterdam).

The project has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of UNESCO and the FAO.
