As part of the African delegation to the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2012, 108 coordinators from the Thousand Gardens in Africa project arrived in Turin for the event.
Products like vegetables and herbs were on display at a stand in the area dedicated to Africa, where the coordinators took turns to talk about the project and take visitors around the adjacent African garden.

• A training meeting on Slow Food and the Thousand Gardens in Africa guidelines was held from July 10 to 12 in Eastern Cape (South Africa). The organizations Biowatch and Surplus People Project (a Thousand Gardens in Africa project partner) presented Slow Food and the Slow Food Foundation projects to representatives from the 30 new gardens and organized training on the agroecological management of the gardens.

• A training meeting about the agroecological management of the Slow Food gardens, composting and the use of biopesticides was organized from May 7 to 9 in Catembe and Maputo (Mozambique)

March - April 2012
• From March 28 to April 6, Slow Food's international president, Carlo Petrini, travelled around Kenya and Uganda. As well as holding several public conferences and meetings at universities in the two countries, his itinerary most importantly included visits to many local outposts of the Slow Food and Terra Madre network, including food gardens, Presidia, food communities and some of East Africa's many active convivia. During the trip, Petrini gave a series of interviews to journalists from leading East African publications, helping to raise awareness about the movement's philosophy through concrete examples of local Slow Food initiatives.
